For so long your parents or grandparents have significant amounts of time and energy to make scrumptious meals for us to enjoy. How many times have you come home after a rough day at school or work, only to be greeted by a warm and delicious meal waiting for you at the table? Just imagine how lackluster thanksgiving would be without a specially curated spread prepared by your parents. Maybe it’s time for you to try preparing something special for them instead! In this article, we cover a few recipes that you can try out to treat your loved ones. We hope you enjoy these healthy desserts for seniors, and we wish you all the best in your cooking endeavors!
Banana Bread
Banana bread is your classic comfort food that goes great with a variety of other desserts or can be eaten by itself. This recipe makes use of natural sweeteners and healthier oils to promote heart health.
- 1 ¾ whole wheat flour (it’s healthier than refined flour!)
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup skimmed milk
- ½ cup honey
- 1/3 cup of coconut oil (warm it up if it’s not liquid enough)
- 2 eggs
Step 1: Pre-heat the oven to 325 F and grease a baking tray.
Step 2: Add the oil, honey, eggs, bananas, and milk together and beat them till they form a consistent mix. Add the flour, salt, and cinnamon next, and continue to whisk.
Step 3: Pour the mixture onto your greased baking tray and bake for one hour. When done, let it cool for ten minutes.
Baked Apple Slices
Planning a movie night with your loved ones and planning a couple of delicious sides to enjoy while watching your show? Rather than settling for chips, why not try turning a couple apples lying around your home into a delicious, crunchy, sweet, dessert? This recipe is extremely simple and can be adjusted according to your taste. You can substitute cinnamon for a spice of your choice, and you can vary the types of apples you use to create a couple of different flavors. Our personal favorite makes use of fuji apples!
- Apples, as many as you’d like
- Unsalted butter (for less sodium)
- Cinnamon powder
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400F. Prepare a baking tray with baking parchment on top.
Step 2: Slice your apples into eights.
Step 3: Using a brush, gently coat each apple slice with the unsalted butter.
Step 4: Sprinkle cinnamon onto all your apples, and then place them onto your baking tray. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip the apples over and bake for another 10 minutes.
