Edison & Ford Winter Estates
Owned by the City of Fort Myers, Edison & Ford Winter Estates are managed by a new non-profit company. The gardens, laboratory, museum, and residences are all open for tours on a daily basis at the historical site. Visitors can opt to go for either self-guided tours or guided tours. Botanical excursions are given in the mornings on Thursdays and Saturdays. Daily group tours and rental agreements are available throughout the year. Business events, meetings, weddings, and private parties can also be held at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.
Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium
The Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium is a non-profit environmental education institution. Butterfly and bird aviaries, a Planetarium, three nature paths, a museum, a gift store, and meeting and picnic facilities are all part of the attraction. Visitors may learn about Southwest Florida’s natural heritage by strolling around the museum. Daily educational events provide visitors a close-up look at some animals that live here, such as a fox, albino raccoon, and skunk. Cape Coral Historical Museum
The Cape Coral Historical Society established the Cape Coral Historical Museum in 1987. The historic Rosen Building was the museum’s initial installation. Originally the Cape Coral Country Club’s Pro Store, this historic structure now houses a gift shop and offices! With a guided tour, you may learn about Cape Coral’s unique history. You will hear about the incorporation of the city, the Rosen Brothers’ construction of Cape Coral, Homesteaders, the Calusa and Seminole Indians, a mammoth or mastodon fossil bone, and the newest additions to the collection.
Mound House
Situated just off Estero Bay, Mound House is a one-of-a-kind archaeological and historical landmark on Fort Myers Beach. Discover this unique museum perched on top of a historic Calusa Indian Shell Mound. There is an underground portion where you can see layers of shell dating a few millennia back. Tour around the museum by yourself or sign up for a guided tour. Outside the museum, you can witness plenty of wildlife in their natural habitat while going on a kayak tour.
