We moved my mom from the north to Discovery Commons South Biscayne in the Fall of 2017. We evaluated several ALFs prior to moving her here; Discovery Commons was far and above superior to all the others. It is clean, brightly lit, the staff is friendly, and the residents well cared for. (The dining room looks like a cruise ship!) Everyone at Discovery Commons has always been kind, helpful and extremely accommodating to my mother and my family. I would recommend Discovery Commons to anyone looking for an assisted living community or memory care for themselves or their loved ones.

I am not one who usually takes the time to write a testimonial or give a rating to a company, but I feel I must break the norm in the case of Discovery Commons South Biscayne.
Kathryn and her team, especially Michelle who runs the memory care neighborhood, knew both my parents from their previous facility. They bent over backwards to accommodate us and get my mom in memory care at Discovery Commons, and at the same time make sure my dad was only a hallway away so he could spend his days with her, and know at night that she was safe and sound with the memory care team. They helped me coordinate their move from the other facility while I was in NY. Literally 3 days before the move, my dad ended up hospitalized needing a heart stent. He got home on Sunday and Kathryn and her team members helped me get the movers and a storage facility who took care of the entire packing of his old place and then moved both of them and their belongings to Discovery Commons two days later! I couldn’t have done it without their help.
Mom is now thriving in Discovery Commons memory care, participating in so many activities now that she actually shoos dad away to go do things he wants. The place is clean, bright, airy, and the team is exceptional and they really care about their residents. I don’t know any other place where the management will give you their cell numbers and keep you up to date on a loved one’s status like the team members do at Discovery Commons. It’s a huge comfort when trying to care for aging parents who live thousands of miles away. I can’t recommend the current team members or Discovery Commons itself enough. They’ve been a bright light in an awful 18-month period. I can only hope Kathryn is still there when I am ready for Discovery Commons.

Dear Barbara,
On behalf of our father, Robert G. Bihun, please accept our sincere thanks for the exceptional care Dad received in his final months from Dena Sternquist. As a resident of Discovery Commons South Biscayne, we are grateful for the coordinated effort of all the members of Dad’s care team from Tidewell Hospice, Bluestone Physicians, Solaris Rehabilitation, Discovery at Home, and Discovery Commons. But we honestly do not know what we would have done without Dena’s genuine concern, proficiency, professionalism and advocacy.
It is not hyperbole to say that Dena became a member of our family. Dad trusted her explicitly, as did we. It gave us great comfort knowing she was our eyes and ears for Dad as we navigated his stubbornness, his frustration with the aggressive progression of his tumors, and the great distances that challenged us with time and travel. There are countless examples of ways in which Dena’s observations, expertise and advocacy made Dad more comfortable and healthier. In addition to providing wound care, in many ways, Dena provided “soul” care. Dad genuinely felt loved.
We are forever grateful to have Dena’s support through Dad’s life and death at Discovery Commons.
Sincerely,
Cindy Stewart
